StackSee is a comprehensive web technology detection platform that helps developers and businesses identify the technologies, frameworks, libraries, and tools used by any website. We offer multiple ways to access our technology detection services, including a browser extension, web application, and API. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Data Collection
What We Collect
When you use StackSee services (browser extension, web application, or API), we collect:
- Domain Names: The domain names of websites you analyze (e.g.,
"example.com")
- Browser extension: When automatic background analysis is enabled, or when you manually click the extension icon
- Web application: When you submit a domain for analysis
- API: When you make an API request to analyze a domain
- We do NOT collect full URLs with paths (e.g., we never see "/checkout" or "/login")
- We do NOT collect query parameters or sensitive URL data
- Analysis Results: Technology detection results for domains you analyze
- Browser extension: Cached locally in your browser for 7 days
- Stored on our servers for 7 days to improve performance across all services
- Account Information (optional, for registered users only):
- Email address (for account management and notifications)
- Username (for identification)
- Usage statistics (API call counts, rate limits)
What We Do NOT Collect
- ❌ Personal information beyond account registration (if you choose to create an account)
- ❌ Full URLs or browsing paths
- ❌ Page content or form data
- ❌ Login credentials
- ❌ Payment information (payment processing handled by third-party providers)
- ❌ Browsing history beyond domain names you explicitly analyze
- ❌ IP addresses (except temporarily for rate limiting and security)
How We Use Data
Domain Names
Domain names are sent to stacksee.com to:
- Detect which technologies the website uses
- Cache results for faster future lookups
- Provide instant analysis when you click the extension icon
Analysis Results
Technology detection results are:
- Displayed in the browser extension popup, web application, or returned via API
- Cached locally in your browser (7 days, browser extension only)
- Cached on our servers (7 days) for performance across all services
- Never sold or shared with third parties
Account Information
If you create an account, we use your information to:
- Provide account management and authentication
- Track API usage and enforce rate limits
- Send important service notifications (with your consent)
- Improve our services and user experience

You Have Full Control
Browser Extension Users
- Disable Automatic Analysis
- Open extension settings
- Toggle off "Automatic Background Analysis"
- Extension will only analyze when you manually click the icon
- Clear Cache
- Extension settings → Clear cache
- Removes all locally stored analysis results
- Incognito Mode
- Automatic analysis is always disabled in incognito/private browsing
- You must manually click the extension to analyze
- Results are not saved in incognito mode
- Do Not Track (DNT)
- We respect the DNT browser setting
- If DNT is enabled, automatic analysis is disabled
- Uninstall
- Uninstalling the extension removes all local data
- Server-side cache expires after 7 days

Data Storage & Security
Local Storage (Browser Extension Only)
- Analysis results cached for 7 days
- Settings stored locally
- Total storage: <5MB typically
- Cleared when you uninstall the extension
Server Storage (stacksee.com)
- Domain analysis results cached for 7 days
- Account information (email, username) stored until account deletion
- API usage statistics and rate limit data
- Automatically deleted after retention periods expire
- Stored securely with industry-standard encryption
Security Measures
- HTTPS encryption for all API requests
- No tracking cookies
- Rate limiting to prevent abuse
- Regular security audits
Third-Party Services
We do not share your data with third parties. The only data transmission is: Your browser → stacksee.com (for technology detection) and stacksee.com → Your browser (detection results)
We use:
- Railway.app for hosting (infrastructure provider)
- Cloudflare for CDN and DDoS protection (network provider)
These providers may see domain names in server logs but do not have access to our database.
Rate Limiting
To ensure fair usage and prevent abuse, we implement rate limits across all our services:
- Free users (web app and extension): Limited number of domain analyses per hour
- Free API tier: Limited API requests per hour/day
- Paid plans: Higher limits based on subscription tier
- Rate limiting based on:
- IP address (anonymous users and browser extension)
- Account ID (registered users and API clients)
- IP addresses are not stored beyond rate limit enforcement
Children's Privacy
StackSee is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
